The Montana Environmental Health Association (MEHA) is a nonprofit organization composed of members from a variety of public and environmental health related disciplines (such as biology, microbiology, engineering, hydrogeology, nursing, health education, health promotion).  We are an affiliate of the National Environmental Health Association.  As a professional organization, MEHA strives to maintain and improve the standards of performance of environmental health professionals in Montana.

We do this by:

  • Requiring the highest degree of skill, efficiency and professional competence among those who practice in the profession of Environmental Health in Montana;

  • Sponsoring educational conferences, maintaining programs of continuing education, and supporting scholarships;

  • Engaging in any other lawful activities appropriate to a professional organization; provided, however, that the Association shall not endorse the products or services of any manufacturer or other commercial organization; nor shall it sanction such endorsement by or in the name of the Association by any of its members;

Scholarships:  

MEHA maintains two scholarships for students in the environmental health field at Montana State University (Bozeman, MT) and the University of Montana (Missoula, MT).  The scholarships are funded by our members.  The students are chosen by their respective universities to receive the award based on a variety of criteria.  Please contact the individual universities for more information.

 

 

Awards:

MEHA grants a variety of awards to not only members, but also exemplary nonmembers who contribute to the field of environmental health in Montana.

 

Donald E. Pizzini Outstanding Achievement Award:  Awarded to a Montana Sanitarian who has contributed for several years to the field of environmental health and was a member in good standing with MEHA for the period referred to, but may not be a current member.

 

William G. Walter Outstanding Sanitarian Award:  Awarded to a MEHA member who has shown outstanding job performance in the past year.

 

Vernon E. Sloulin, RS, Rookie of the Year Award:  Awarded to a MEHA member who is new to the field of environmental health having less than eighteen months of service in the field as of July 1, prior to the annual MEHA Fall Conference, and is currently a registered sanitarian.

 

Excellence Award:  Awarded to a MEHA member who has demonstrated the ability to achieve an environmental health goal through exceptional public relations skills.

 

Distinguished Service Award:  Awarded to an individual or organization outside of MEHA who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of environmental health in Montana.

 

Certificate of Recognition:  Awarded to any individual or organization deserving of recognition for a special achievement in environmental health or special effort that promotes or supports the work of environmental health.
